Paul Watson and the Sea Shepherd give me hope. The young people of Egypt, Tunisia, and elsewhere in the Middle East and North Africa give me hope. I heard of a camp that Palestinian and Israeli teenagers attended together, and they promised to stay in touch with each other through emails and facebook. That gives me hope. I've known the social networks were the way to reach each other. The world wide web has made it possible to go around our governments and really make contact with each other.
To the critics of "friends" on facebook, I've felt since I became involved, that these many "friends" who are virtual have been as true to me as the friends I have in the non-virtual world. And now events world wide are verifying that revolutions can happen, whale hunting could possibly finally be stopped - that perhaps real democracy could happen?
We haven't seen the full potential of true democracy yet have we? It's because we're going to have to go another step eventually and get rid of an economy based on finance and profit-making to an economy of fulfilling the needs, the desires of all humans on earth for friendly, productive, enriching lives. The haves and have nots really do finally have to go - As long as we have that disparity we will have pain. Pain for the haves as well as the have nots, because the conscience in all people will not feel sane and true as long as there is unnecessary suffering in the world caused by deprivation. I mean deprivation such as basic clean water, safety for all men, women, and children from the depravity of others seeking power. The seeking of power through money has kept most of the world in bondage since the beginning of civilization - since the beginning of agriculture so many years ago.
And so I wonder, as I watch our young people playing violent video games and listening to music of anger and despair, what kind of world will they have, what will they create. I see now with events in the world by these gaming and music listening young people, that they want to create a fair and just world. With so many of them communicating directly with each other now, the desire to create this world can happen.
Here we are at the forefront of a new way to organize on an egalitarian level this brave new world. A world without power hierarchy, a world where we actually take care of each other. We do have to learn how to live together peacefully because ultimately nothing else will work. The lynch pin for saving our world will be our ability to live together as I said, take care of each other. Human relations are the key to any kind of permanent change for good. All of us can see we now have the ability to start that Process and bring it to fruition.
